Palate Expander, Yeah It’s happening.
The past month, Anthony has been prepping for his palate expander and partial braces. Today he got his metal brackets/band on his bottom molars after having rubber band spacers on the tops and bottoms. The metal brackets look like this….
He still has the rubber band spacers up top. He also had an impression done up top with the metal brackets temporarily in. He did great! No tears. Even though he said for a few minutes it felt like he couldn’t swallow. I have a feeling he’s going to be experiencing that again when the actual expander is put into place.
I was so impressed though because up until a month ago, Anthony was petrified of going to the dentist! But you wouldn’t know that now. He’s really been holding it together. I think know he gets to spin the “Point wheel” when he leaves the office, and is earning points to winning a Game Stop gift certificate, really motivates him.

This whole process should take about a year. After his expander is put in (he will have this in for approximately six months), he will have partial braces put on his top teeth, and after the expander is removed, they will put partial braces on his bottom teeth. Then after all that is removed, Anthony will need to wear a upper and lower retainer. He’s already to pick up Minecraft colors for his braces and retainer. =-)
