Today was a BIG day……
Anthony got his Palate Expander!
Feel free to leave a comment for Anthony. He would love to hear about others experiences.
He was so nervous to go. But I knew that most of the nervousness was to do to a month long preparation for THIS actual event.
In the past month we have been to the orthodontist 5 times! Anthony got his rubber band spacers put in and molds taken. Then he had the metal brackets put on his bottom molars, and more molds were taken. Then over the 2 week period, he had both bands fall out. So we had to go back 2 separate times to get those replaced.
So yes today I took him in to FINALLY get his palate expander in.
He was nervous and teared up. And then a boy who was in the office, who was probably a couple years older than Anthony came up to him. He told Anthony that he had a palate expander in not that long ago, and it wasn’t that bad. He was so sweet to do that.
The process itself caused Anthony no pain. He felt some pressure when they glued it in his mouth. But no pain to speak off. He even allowed them to “turn” the palate expander there in the office. Anthony said that the orthodontist was the Professional and he felt better with them doing it LOL However he knows I will have to do it at home. =-) Hopefully that goes well.
I would say the first 30 mins of having it in his mouth were the worst part. He had a hard time swallowing and drinking. And that was freaking him out a bit. But he adapted and can now swallow fine. And his speech really isn’t that bad. I think its because the actual palate expander seems to be up pretty high in his palate.
So far he has eaten, applesauce, yogurt and a Popsicle. Tonight he wants me to make him mashed potatoes. We will see how that goes. Will update you all later, but as for now, everything has gone pretty well, and I have to say. I’m feeling pretty relieved!
